PEPTIVET® - a new generation of dermatology topicals

Peptivet Shampoo and Peptivet Foam both contain the patented peptide AMP2041, a new innovation in veterinary topicals which has been specifically developed to help veterinary practices manage their dermatology cases responsibly. Due to the increasing problem of antibiotic resistance, Dermatology Opinion Leaders now recommend topical therapy as the first line approach for superficial skin problems. With advances in topical skin care increasing the availability of adjunctive and alternative options, daily management of the problem with topical shampoos and foams can help successfully manage many skin cases.

In the current climate of trying to reduce the use of antibiotics in both human and veterinary medicine, it has been shown that non-antibiotic topical products can be used alone to help manage ear and skin problems without needing to use products that may be susceptible to ever growing resistance.

Resistance arises when the micro-organisms which cause infection survive exposure to a medicine that would normally kill them or stop their growth.

Resistance is a natural biological phenomenon but is increased and accelerated by various factors such as overuse and misuse of medicines, poor infection control practices and global trade and travel.

The VMD supports and encourages the responsible use of antibiotics. Responsible use requires veterinary surgeons to take into consideration … the most appropriate active substance(s), and BSAVA’s PROTECT guidelines, developed with the Small Animal Medicine Society, have become an essential tool in helping practices ensure they are taking a responsible approach to this situation.

PEPTIVET®

Peptivet Shampo and Foam contain the novel synthesised Antimicrobial Peptide AMP 2041. AMP 2041 has a strong antibacterial and anti fungal action and works by breaking down the cell membrane of bacteria and yeast.   Peptivet Shampoo & Foam also contain Chlorhexidine and Tris EDTA, a synergistic combination which increases the antibacterial / antifungal action. The low concentration of chlorhexidine ensures irritation and drying of the skin is avoided.

Peptides are short chains of amino acids. Amino acids are the basic building blocks of proteins and many other different types of organic molecules. The digestion of proteins in the body frequently creates peptides and the bloodstream readily and rapidly absorbs many types of peptides. For this reason, peptides are particularly effective as skin care ingredients.

Key Ingredients:

Peptivet Shampoo

AMP2041 (peptide) is an innovative, patented, synthesised antibacterial peptide, which works by disturbing and perforating the bacterial cell membrane.

Chlorhexidine Digluconate (max 0.1%)  has an antibacterial and antifungal action which is not inactivated by pus or organic material.  Chlorhexidine works synergistically with the other ingredients, enabling very low levels to be used.

TrisEDTA enhances the permeability of the bacterial membrane and potentiated chlorhexidine and other antibacterial agents.

Lanolin which works to restore skin barrier function and soothe irritated and sore skin.

Peptivet Foam

AMP2041 ( peptide) is an innovative, patented, synthesised antibacterial peptide, which works by disturbing and perforating the bacterial cell membrane.

Chlorhexidine Digluconate ( max 0.07%)  has an antibacterial and antifungal action which is not inactivated by pus or organic material.  Chlorhexidine works synergistically with the other ingredients, enabling very low levels to be used.

TrisEDTA enhances the permeability of the bacterial membrane and potentiated chlorhexidine and other antibacterial agents.

Glycerophosphoinositol Lysine phospholipid

Propylene Glycol

Glycerin & Purified Water

PROPERTIES

Peptivet Shampoo & Peptivet Foam help to improve the physiological state of the skin, counteract irritation and help to restore the skin barrier. Peptivet Shampoo and Foam should be used together for best results. Shampoo twice a week and apply the foam every day in between baths for daily management of the problem.

Peptivet Shampoo - Directions for Use :

Use lukewarm water to wet the animal’s coat.  Apply the product and massage gently against the direction of the hair.  After 3 - 5 minutes, rinse carefully using lukewarm water, and dry.  Due to the fast action of AMP 2041, the recommended contact time for the shampoo is 3-5 minutes, which is very short compared to conventional shampoos and therefore markedly improves owner compliance to ensure successful and effective bathing.

Available in 200mls

Peptivet Foam - Directions for Use

Apply the Foam to the skin and lightly massage in.  This aids the penetration and absorption of the product.   Apply one or more times per day according to veterinary recommendation.   For localised skin problems or where shampooing the whole dog is very difficult or unnecessary, Peptivet Foam can be used alone.

Available in 100mls

Peptivet Shampoo & Foam should be used ongoing as part of a proper maintenance programme to ensure good skin health in the long term.
