Do you see owners lacking the dedication required for food trials, or not willing to try immunotherapy? Summer has arrived and so this means hello allergies and hello distressed & frustrated clients & pets.
Whilst we don’t have any miracle cures, we do have some products which can be extremely useful, as well as being easy to use.
In an ideal world, a combination of both topical therapy and one or maybe more of the above treatments would be the best approach, however we all know this isn’t always possible. It comes down to each individual client and case and what they are prepared to do, what they can afford, what is going to help in the short-term but also how they can realistically manage long term.
It is now well recognized that dogs with atopy have a skin barrier defect and as such, products that aim to rehydrate the skin and help skin barrier function can be useful in helping to manage these problems.
So, first let’s look at Ermidra Spray. Containing Zinc Gluconate, Epilobium, Propylene Glycol, Glycerine and Cyclodextrins, these essential ingredients all help to rehydrate, soothe and normalize the water content of the skin. Ermidra Spray also contains micro-capsules called Liposomes which penetrate deeper into the skin layers and slowly release the moisturising agent D-panthenol. This gives long-lasting help against dryness and helps to repair skin barrier function thus reducing trans-epidermal water loss. Ermidra spray may be applied several times a day if required, to alleviate itch and can also be used after shampooing.
Shampoo therapy is considered by many as a useful adjunct in helping to relieve the symptoms of atopy. Shampooing with a non-irritant shampoo is useful in removing allergens from the surface of the skin and is likely to also have a direct soothing effect.
Vetruus have two shampoo’s each offering different qualities. Ideally you will have performed some diagnostic tests to establish what you are dealing with, to know whether you require an anti-fungal action or not.
